Nicolas Engel directed five short films broadcasted on French and German television channels (Arte, TV5, France 2, Canal +) and shown in International Film Festivals. Two of them were screened and awarded at Cannes Film Festival (Critic’s Week).

His films are musicals. Working with different composers, he experienced different ways of telling his stories through music and songs.

In 2009 he shot the short film Dnipro Crocodile in Kiev.

Karnevalskind is his first short film shot in German (and in Germany).
